A balanced system.
Once wells go beyond the angle of repose—about 40 to 50 degrees from vertical—cleaning cuttings from the well becomes more challenging. Since most extended reach wells go beyond this angle, we give our rigs the capacity to pump 1,600 gpm into the well at up to 7,500 psi. But more important than getting mud into the well is handling the cuttings and mud returning to the surface. To clean the mud, we installed balanced mud cleaning equipment (shakers, mud cleaners, etc.) to ensure mud is kept as clean as possible.
